So you’ve just brought your first all-electric Lexus car and now you’re thinking of having a home car charger installed? This article will help you find out what you need for an EV charger home installation, the type of EV charger you should choose, and the amount of time it will take to charge your Lexus EV car. The Lexus HomeCharge wallbox is a 7kW, untethered, single phase charger with 4G, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and RFID connections.
From the 3rd April 2024 - 30th September 2024, we are offering retail customers who order a new Lexus plug-in hybrid or electric car which is registered by 31st December 2024, a Lexus HomeCharge EV charger with standard installation at a cost of only £395.

Before you can have an EV charger installation, you need to check that your property is suitable for one. The easiest first step is to make sure you have off-street parking. You must have a driveway or garage in order to meet the EV charger installation requirements.
The next step is freeholder permission. If you live in a rented property or flats, you will need the freeholder’s permission before you can install any home car charger installation.
The final step is the electrical safety check. Properties older than 2008 will need to be checked by an electrical engineer, such as British Gas, to ensure your electrics are up to standard and strong enough to support the EV home charging.
If you’ve passed all these steps with flying colours, your home is now ready for an EV charger installation.

There are two types of EV chargers – tethered and universal charge point. A tethered charger comes with the cable for convenience. A universal or untethered charger can connect to all EVs and comes without a cable.
Regarding the cable length, a tethered charging cable is between 4.8m – 7.5m, whereas a universal charger cable can be up to 10m in length. Depending on where you park your car on the driveway or in the garage and where you install your EV charger, will help you to decide on the length of the charging cable you require.

Each model is different but with a 7.4kW charger, these are the current charging times*:
All-Electric Lexus RZ – 10 hours
All-Electric Lexus UX 300e - 11 hours
Lexus NX 450h+ Plug-in Hybrid - 3 hours
*Actual charging times may vary depending on various factors, including the age, type, condition and temperature of the charging unit and the battery, the starting charge and environmental conditions at the point of use. Charge times may be longer in colder weather and if battery temperature activates safeguarding technology.
