How Long To Charge A Lexus Electric Car

For many people considering an electric car, the time it takes to charge it is one of the main worries. When in reality many Lexus EV owners never charge their car from 0-100%, which takes the most time, and instead charge little and often wherever they park. Plus, many owners charge their cars overnight so that they wake up to a fully charged car. In this guide we’ll look into the factors affecting the time it takes to charge a Lexus EV.

What Factors Affect Lexus EV Charging Speed?

There are a range of factors that affect Lexus EV charging times. These include:

  • Environmental factors: in colder temperatures it may take longer to charge the car and the range may decrease so you’ll get less miles per hour of charging.
  • Numbers of cars using the charger: if more than one car is plugged into a charger it can decrease the charging speed as the charge is shared.
  • Maximum charging rate of the charger: the car cannot charge at any faster a rate than that of the charger. So, the faster the rate of the charge the faster your battery will recharge.
  • Maximum charging rate of the car: different EVs can charge at different maximum rates. For example, All-Electric Lexus RZ can charge at speeds up to 150kW.
  • Battery state: the existing charge can affect the charging speed, for example charging from empty will take longer than from 20-80%.
  • Battery size: the size of the battery will affect how long it takes to charge, the bigger the battery and its capacity the longer it will take to charge. But a larger battery will provide a greater range.

How Long To Charge A Lexus Electric Car At Home

Depending on the type of EV you own and the charger capacity you’re using, charging from home could take between 1 and 24 hours. Using the most common 7kW home charger, charging could take between 4-10 hours. All-Electric Lexus RZ can be charged from 10-100% in 10 hours using a 7kW charger. This is quick enough to ensure your car is fully charged whilst parked overnight.

If you cannot use or install a home charger you could also use a 3 pin plug connector but these are much slower.

Thanks to a range of EV-specific tariffs you can set when the car charges and utilise off-peak charging times to charge when electricity rates are lower.

How Long To Charge A Lexus Electric Car At A Public Charger?

The time it takes to charge at a public charger is determined by the same factors – battery size and charging speed.

Rapid charging stations can often be found at supermarkets, shopping centres, service stations, hotels and some workplaces.

Rapid charging stations charge at a much higher rate than those found at home which means the overall charging time is much lower than when charging at home. They offer a great way to quickly top up the battery to keep you on the move. All-Electric Lexus RZ and All-Electric Lexus UX 300e both take 35 minutes to charge to 80% at a rapid charging station.
