Road Safety Week 2024

Did you know around 1,700 people die on UK roads each year? This Road Safety Week, Brake are raising awareness around road victims and what can be achieved to prevent these casualties.

Our Toyota models offer a range of safety features to keep not only you and your passengers safe, but those around you whilst driving as well. Keep reading to find out more about these features.

Toyota Safety Sense

These safety features are available to keep you and your passengers safe on your journey:

• Pre-Collision System – this system scans the road ahead for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists and will alert you and start braking if there is potential for a collision.
• Road Sign Assist – monitors the road signs such as speed limits and will reduce your speed to match the sign to make sure you are following it.
• Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control – keeps you at a minimum pre-set distance from the vehicle in front and will reduce your speed if the set distance reduces.
• Lane Trace Assist – this system keeps you centred in your lane especially whilst driving on the motorway, to make sure you don’t drift over the lines.
• Automatic High-Beam System – designed to optimise visibility during night-time driving and will switch automatically between high and low beam as it detects oncoming traffic.
• Emergency Driving Stop System – if the car system detects no driver input for some time, it will alert the driver with warning noises and if there is still no movement from the driver, the system will bring the vehicle to a gradual stop with hazard lights on.

Driving and Parking Assistance

Whilst driving and parking, these systems are available to keep you as safe as possible especially when exiting the vehicle:

• Blind Spot Monitor – this system alerts the driver to any vehicles they might not have seen in their mirrors to make sure it’s safe to overtake.
• Safe Exit Assist – using the Blind Spot Monitor radar, the car indicators will light up to alert you if it’s not safe to exit the car.
• Rear Seat Reminder System – when you leave the car, this system will alert you if you have left an object or person on the back seats.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert With Automatic Braking – when reversing out of a space, this system identifies any vehicles approaching from either side that you may not have spotted and will alert you to them.
• Intelligent Clearance Sonar – this system warns you of any obstacles in front or behind the car and will automatically brake to avoid collisions.

Road Safety Week is 17th-23rd November 2024 and is an event organised by Brake, a road safety charity working with communities and companies across the UK to make our roads safer. This year their focus is road victims.
