We are thrilled to secure a £1,800 grant for The Sick Children’s Trust, a charity that provides a ‘Home from Home’ where families with a sick child in hospital can stay.
Thanks to The Sick Children’s Trust, families don’t have to travel long distances to visit their child in hospital, sleep in uncomfortable hospital chairs or pay to stay in hotels. Not only does this mean the financial burden associated with having a child in hospital is reduced significantly, it also supports the mental wellbeing of those with a child who is unwell.
One of the ‘Homes from Home’ run by The Sick Children’s Trust is Acorn House, where families with children receiving treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital can stay free of charge. Acorn House supports over 500 families of some of the sickest children in the country. It offers 15 bedrooms (each linked directly to the wards at Addenbrooke’s Hospital via telephone), as well as nine bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a communal dining area, a shared living room, full laundry facilities and an enclosed garden.
The funding secured by our Toyota St Ives Centre will be used towards the purchase of much-needed furniture for Acorn House, ensuring it’s as comfortable as possible for the families staying there. The replacement of tired and worn furniture will ensure Acorn House operates to the highest standard for families, meaning they can make use of communal facilities, sit together with a home-cooked meal, watch TV or play and spend time together as a family.
The Toyota Community Fund is a programme of small grants designed to help local charities, schools and community projects. In the past financial year, the fund has supported many deserving causes in the UK, from schools to cancer care charities. We’re thrilled to secure this funding and we hope it helps to support the Caring and Sharing Trust and the important work it does.
The Toyota Community Fund is operated by the Toyota (GB) Charitable Trust on behalf of Toyota (GB) PLC and Toyota Financial Services, Registered Charity Number 327808.
